What a Mess!

Behind the garage is overgrown and riddled with various types of paving stones and bricks.
Note to self: Add calamine lotion to shopping list.

In the far corner of the backyard there was once a forest – an evil forest! Ok, not really. I felt like I was battling evil though. The young trees had sprouted up and towered over me like dragons I had to slay. The roots from tree stumps spread out through the dirt like giant spider legs fighting to remain buried. The English Ivy and the dreaded poison ivy I hacked through were reminiscent of Devil’s Snare. How could I have forgotten how painfully itchy poison ivy is? Time to stock up on the calamine lotion!

Over the last year, we decided to remove the evil overgrowth. Behind the garage is the most neglected area of our yard. Not any more!!! I’m on a mission from God! (Ok, that’s just a Blues Brothers reference.)

Incredibly heavy paving stones and cinder blocks that were buried and entwined in the ivy.
Heavy AF!

Last year was removing the trees, etc. This year is removing all of the ivy and paving stones. So many paving stones! Why do I have all of these? Seriously! They’re all different sizes, weights, and compositions. Did I mention HEAVY?! I had to activate Beast Mode to carry some of these.

Anyway, the project has begun and I’m about 25% done with the clean-up. I have many more paving stones and bricks to untangle from the ivy and dig up from under the years of leaf accumulation, but I will prevail! It also helps that the hubby pitches in from time-to-time.

Mirkwood laden with spiders and evil things!

So, I leave you with a few photos of the progress (battle) and will update you as we tackle Mirkwood aka our backyard.

Again, thanks for reading. I hope it was entertaining or at least made you feel better about your yard. I tell you what. Gardening and yard work can really beat you up!
